India and Canada continue negotiations on a free trade agreement.
After 5 years, India and Canada resumed a free trade agreement (FTA) last week, hoping to reach an interim or early harvest agreement in the next six to nine months.
Although free trade agreement negotiations between India and Canada, which began in 2010, were suspended for the first time and resumed in 2017, no bargaining was finally concluded.
According to statistics, India's total exports to Canada were estimated at around US$3.6 billion and Canada's total exports to India were about US$2.9 billion.
Last month, Indian Trade Minister Piyush Goyal and Canadian Trade Minister Mary Ng held a high-level meeting and began discussing the FTA, with the aim of resuming negotiations and reaching a speedy agreement.
