İzmir Demir Çelik Sanayi A.Ş. (İDÇ) increased its annual steel production capacity from 1.5 million tons to 3.1 million tons with the new continuous casting plant commissioned at its facility in the Aliağa district of İzmir.
The new seven-strand caster supplied by equipment manufacturer Concast provides İDÇ with the flexibility to produce billets and blooms in different sizes, allowing the company to quickly adapt to changing market demands. The plant can produce in six different section sizes, ranging from 150x150 mm to 220x280 mm.
The new casting line operates with a casting radius of 10.25 meters and casting speeds varying between 0.6 and 4.0 meters per minute. This ensures high quality while increasing efficiency in the production process and reducing operational costs.
İDÇ has integrated advanced technologies into its system to enhance product quality, such as advanced tundish flow control, optimized cooling systems, and M-EMS. Mold level control, convex mold design that improves surface quality, and automated mold powder feeding systems are also among the prominent features of the new plant.
Thanks to this cooperation with SMS Group, İDÇ reduced its dependence on imported semi-finished products while making its production processes more efficient and sustainable. Commissioning was completed in April 2024, and the final acceptance took place in October.
