The company concluded the agreement with Hanwha Ocean for the infrastructure manufacturing and installation works of the Shinan Ui offshore wind power project.
The project will have a total capacity of 390 MW, with construction activities set to begin immediately and continue until January 2029. The investment is considered a significant step in South Korea’s energy transition while also strengthening Hyundai Steel Industry’s position in the sector.
The project will also be the first offshore wind power plant in South Korea to apply the pre piling method. With piles driven into the seabed before foundation installation, the method is expected to shorten construction time and improve installation accuracy.
Hyundai Steel Industry has played an active role in South Korea’s offshore wind sector since the Tamra project, the country’s first commercial offshore wind power plant, which became operational in 2012. The new contract is seen as a key part of the company’s long term growth strategy in offshore wind energy.
