At the Kish Steel Symposium on Kish Island, a dedicated panel titled “High-Strength Steels in the Construction Industry” took place. The panel included Mohammad Kargar, Sales and Marketing Manager at Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari Automotive Sheet Company; Mohammadreza Mohammadi-Pasand, Quality Control and Laboratory Manager at the same company; and Mohsen Mohammadi, Metallurgy and Production Specialist from Mobarakeh Steel.
In his opening remarks, Kargar highlighted the limitations of the current DX51 steel grade in construction projects and emphasized the growing need for higher-strength grades such as S280GD, S350GD, and S420GD. He noted that his company is currently the only producer capable of manufacturing these grades and that the necessary engineering approvals are underway.
Mohammadreza Mohammadi-Pasand elaborated on the company’s technical capabilities, noting that improvements in galvanizing processes and quality control have enabled the production of high-strength and formable steels. These products are designed to meet the requirements of the construction, automotive, and home appliance sectors.
Perspective from Mobarakeh Steel
In the final part of the panel, Mohsen Mohammadi explained that while DX51D+Z steel is low-carbon and suitable for cold forming, its strength is limited. Structural steel grades ranging from S220GD to S350GD provide higher strength and better toughness, making them a viable alternative to DX51D. He added that production of higher-strength grades such as S420GD and S500GD is continuing through collaboration with Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari Automotive Sheet Company.
