Hafeet Rail, the cross-border railway project connecting the United Arab Emirates and the Sultanate of Oman, has announced the signing of a key partnership agreement with Itaminas Comércio de Minérios S.A., one of Brazil’s leading iron ore producers. The agreement aims to strengthen the regional iron and steel industry by developing a sustainable logistics network that connects key ports and industrial zones.
Under the agreement, Hafeet Rail’s advanced infrastructure and connectivity—particularly Sohar Port’s integrated rail facilities—will enhance import and local processing efficiency. The port’s established infrastructure and ongoing expansion projects are positioning it as a strategic hub for iron ore logistics in the region.
Construction along the railway corridor is progressing rapidly in both countries. Groundworks, route leveling, and bridge and tunnel construction are actively underway, supported by strong collaboration with local authorities to ensure smooth project implementation. These developments are reinforcing economic integration between Oman and the UAE.
Itaminas, which has an annual production capacity of 6.5 million tons of high-grade iron ore, plans to export a significant portion through Brazil’s Sudeste Port to the Middle East. This collaboration lays the foundation for an integrated transport corridor offering efficient, sustainable, and scalable logistics solutions for regional steel producers.
