Habaş has become the top company in the steel sector

The Turkish Exporters Assembly announced the top 1000 exporting companies of Turkey in 2022. Habaş, led by its Chairman of the Board Mehmet BAŞARAN, ranked first in the steel sector.

Habaş has maintained its leadership in various fields in Turkey and has continued to carry the flag of being the top exporter of long and flat steel for the past 15 years. Established in 1956, Habaş started its industrial journey with the production of industrial and medical gases and has now become one of the leading groups in the country, operating in the fields of iron and steel, LPG, natural gas, heavy machinery manufacturing, energy and banking, automotive, and shipbuilding sectors.

As the leading company in the Industrial and Medical Gases sector, Habaş has widespread facilities, high production, storage and transportation capabilities, a broad network of dealers, and technical support and maintenance teams. It continuously improves its capacity, sales points, and product range to meet the increasing demand for industrial and medical gases in Turkey.

Habaş has also provided support by directly and indirectly supplying medical oxygen, which is needed by neighboring countries such as Serbia and Macedonia. In addition to liquid oxygen, liquid nitrogen, liquid argon, liquid carbon dioxide, liquid helium, acetylene, hydrogen, anesthesia gases, welding gases, food gases, gas mixtures, high-purity, and specialty gases are produced, stored, and supplied to customers at Habaş facilities nationwide.

The Iron and Steel sector, which is one of Turkey's most important and prioritized sectors, is another area where Habaş is a leader. Habaş' iron and steel facilities, which started production in Aliağa in 1987, have a liquid steel production capacity of 4.7 million tons today. With new investments, this capacity is expected to reach 7.5 million tons by the beginning of 2024.

Events that occurred worldwide in 2022, such as the impact of the Ukraine-Russia war on production and supply chains and the trade bans imposed on Russia, directly and indirectly affected the iron and steel sector negatively. Unfair protective measures continued by the EU and the US, two of our most important export markets, have created obstacles for our exports in 2022.

As industry players, while significant cost increases in our production costs weaken our competitiveness, we have also been forced to compete with continuous and high-tonnage sales from the Far East to our country and our major export markets. Nevertheless, Habaş, which exports long and flat steel products to 40 different countries across five continents, achieved an export volume of 1.4 billion US dollars in 2022. The main reason for this success is our ability to adapt quickly to market conditions and grasp the realities of the market. This is also due to our industry's strongest characteristic, which is having experience. Additionally, Habaş diversifies its market presence in export activities on a country-by-country basis and develops user sectors that it can meet their demands. Through this approach, it aims to increase both the number and quality of customers based on continuity.

Habaş continues its production of ribbed construction steel, wire rod, hot-rolled flat steel, tempered, pickled, oiled flat steel, patterned steel, slit flat steel coils, and steel billets. In 2022, it further enhanced its competitive power with new markets and products. The company's future facilities, including the Plate Rolling Mill, Cold and Galvanized Production Facilities, and Tinplate line, will cover heavy plate demand required in domestic and international markets, shipbuilding industry, machinery industry, and construction sector.

Habaş, a leading player in the Energy-LPG sector, offers LPG to consumers in cylinder, bulk, and autogas through its filling and storage facilities, marine terminals, extensive transportation fleet, and dealer network. After the liberalization of the natural gas sector, Habaş obtained the necessary licenses and developed the liquefied natural gas (LNG) supply system for customers in areas where natural gas had not yet reached. Habaş is also the first company to develop and introduce the compressed natural gas (CNG) supply chain to meet the needs of customers with lower consumption levels. Aiming to be present in all areas of energy, Habaş has made significant investments in electricity generation and has become one of the leading companies in the country, with a capacity of 860 MWh.

One of Habaş' business areas is the manufacturing of industrial facilities. Habaş Industrial Plants, which performs turnkey installations of process plants, air separation plants, steel production plants, rolling mills, power generation plants, gas filling and storage facilities, also provides R&D engineering services in this field. Habaş, Turkey's first high-pressure seamless steel tube producer, is also a manufacturer of all kinds of welded and seamless pressurized gas cylinders, single and double-walled storage tanks, vaporizers, waste heat boilers, and similar machinery and equipment. The "100% Domestic" Habaş Group is also active in the banking sector. Anadolubank, a subsidiary of Habaş, is one of Turkey's young, dynamic, and high-potential banks. When acquired from the Privatization Administration in 1997, Anadolubank had three branches. Today, it serves customers with 116 branches and a total of 1,660 employees, maintaining uninterrupted growth. Additionally, Anadolu Leasing, Anadolu Factoring, Anadolu Investment, and the Netherlands-based Anadolubank N.V. are financial institutions operating within the Habaş Group. With its quality workforce and strong capital, the Habaş Group will continue to contribute to the growth of the country's economy in the coming years.
