GMH Gruppe has officially announced the acquisition of Buderus Edelstahl GmbH’s large-scale hot rolling mill and mechanical processing operations, including heat treatment. All closing conditions for the acquisition have been fully met, and the merger has been approved by the relevant authorities, making the takeover legally complete.
The company has now begun integrating Buderus Edelstahl into its processes and value chains.
Dr. Alexander Becker, CEO of GMH Gruppe, stated, “We are pleased that the closing conditions were met smoothly and on schedule. We are very excited to welcome Buderus into the GMH family. This will allow us to offer our customers a significantly broader range of products. It is a great source of pride for me.”
Market Leader in European Tool Steel
The integration of Buderus Edelstahl aligns with GMH Gruppe’s strategic growth agenda by strengthening existing production capacities, entering new market segments, expanding its product portfolio, and enhancing customer service quality.
The combination of Buderus Edelstahl, Schmiedewerke Gröditz, and Kind & Co. positions GMH Gruppe as the market leader in the European tool steel sector, ensuring long-term supply security for all customers.
Buderus Edelstahl’s mechanical processing and heat treatment capabilities complement the existing capacities of Schmiedewerke Gröditz GmbH, guaranteeing that the production of complex open-die forged components for customers worldwide continues to meet the highest quality standards.
The hot rolling mill at Georgsmarienhütte GmbH closes an existing production gap by expanding the product range to square cross-sections up to 300 mm. This enables access to new markets beyond the traditional passenger car combustion engine segment.
Going forward, Buderus will be able to source raw materials from within the group — including Georgsmarienhütte GmbH, Stahlwerk Bous, Schmiedewerke Gröditz, and Pleissner Guss. This will enable GMH Gruppe to offer customers a significantly broader and more specialized product portfolio.
Benefits for Employees and Customers
For more than 300 employees of the newly acquired business units, the change of ownership marks the beginning of a new chapter within an internationally active, family-owned industrial group. GMH Gruppe aims to sustainably develop and expand the acquired operations.
Dr. Anne-Marie Großmann, CDO of GMH Gruppe, said, “We are very pleased to welcome our new team members to the GMH family.”
Customers will continue to benefit from high-quality products, now further strengthened by the expanded expertise and production capabilities within GMH Gruppe.
