Global pig iron production increased in March

In January-March 2023, global pig iron production amounted to 348.88 million tons, up 3.1% from the same period in 2022. In March, global pig iron production was 120.06 million tons, up 4.4% y-o-y and 3.6% m-o-m.

In the first quarter of 2023, blast furnace pig iron production amounted to 322.93 million tons and direct reduction to 25.95 million tons.

The leading countries in pig iron production in the January-March 2023 period were as follows

China - 219.83 million tons (+7.6%, y-o-y);

India - 32.92 million tons (+8.2%, y-o-y);

Japan - 15.67 million tons (-6.4% y-o-y).
