Midrex has published the global direct reduced iron (DRI) production statistics for 2024. According to the released data, global DRI production rose to 140.8 million tons (Mt) in 2024. This represents an increase of 5.1 Mt, or 3.8%, compared to the previous record of 135.7 Mt recorded in 2023.
Since 2019, global DRI production has grown at an average annual rate of 32.7 million tons (Mta), marking approximately 30.3% growth worldwide.
MIDREX DRI production increased by 0.6%
MIDREX® plants produced a total of 76.2 Mt of DRI in 2024. This figure is 0.6% higher than the 75.7 Mt produced by these plants in 2023. The MIDREX process accounted for 54.1% of the total DRI produced, and notably, 80.1% of the DRI produced in shaft furnaces relies on this process.
