Global chip sales hit record $555.9 billion in 2021

The Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) has released its semiconductor sales data for last year. Accordingly, with the acceleration of digitalization last year, the sales of global chip manufacturers increased by 26.2 percent compared to 2020 and reached 555.9 billion dollars. Thus, the all-time annual record in chip sales was broken.

In 2020, the sector's sales were recorded as $440.3 billion. A total of 1.15 trillion chips were sold in 2021, surpassing the 1 trillion mark for the first time since 2018.

China remained the largest market for semiconductors last year. Chip sales in the country increased by 27.1 percent in 2021 compared to the previous year, reaching $ 192.5 billion.

Due to high chip demand, SIA expects sales to increase by about 9 percent this year, as all major suppliers such as Intel, TSMC and Samsung Electronics are expanding their capacities.
