Germany experienced a decrease in steel sales for March

In Germany, steel sales in March 2024 amounted to 817.467 million tons, down 17.8% compared to the same period in 2023 and down 3.1% on month. National steel federation WV Stahl said that Germany's steel demand will not gain significant momentum before 2025 and will remain behind the economic recovery of other regions.

According to the data, flat product sales in Germany dropped by 6.8% compared to last year to 496.756 million tons in March. Sales of other steel products, excluding flat products, were recorded at 65.948 million tons, down 8.8% compared to March 2023 and down 6.4% on a monthly basis.

Sources said that some steel product operations may be suspended to allow the market to recover, which could last until mid-June. At the same time, the percentage decrease in the steel market, calculated on a yearly and monthly basis, confirmed Germany's recent weak economic data.
