Fuat Tosyalı: “Global steel market balances have been disrupted ,comprehensive measures are essential against unfair competition”

Fuat Tosyalı, Chairman of the Board of Tosyalı Holding, stated that global trade has been undergoing a serious test over the past two years, noting that geopolitical developments and uncertainties surrounding customs tariffs have continued to affect all countries and sectors throughout 2025.

Fuat Tosyalı: “Global steel market balances have been disrupted ,comprehensive measures are essential against unfair competition”

Tosyalı emphasized that the supply surplus driven particularly by China’s high production levels has completely disrupted the balance in global export markets. He stated that global developments have placed significant pressure on domestic iron and steel producers, adding:“We are experiencing this China origin unfair competition in many of the countries where we operate on the export side as well. Therefore, when assessing the pressure coming from the Far East, we must develop holistic measures that not only focus on the domestic market but also cover our export markets. We are entering a period in which practices that support value-added green steel production and provide strategic protection against unfair competition must be addressed with even greater sensitivity. Steps taken with this focus will strengthen the sector’s international competitiveness.”

“We made investments focused on sustainability, efficiency and scale”

Tosyalı stated that, as a company that anticipates sector dynamics in advance, they have made significant investments focused on sustainability, efficiency, and scale. Thanks to these investments, they continue to strengthen their competitive power in the global market, Tosyalı said:

“We are a company operating on a global scale in green steel production. In particular, with our investments in renewable and clean energy sources, we aim to further reduce the carbon emissions of our facilities. In 2025, we took the first step toward one of Türkiye’s largest self-consumption solar power projects, with a capacity of 1.2 GW, by launching the first phase in Osmaniye. In this way, we will meet approximately 50% of our energy self-consumption from solar power.

In addition, our efforts continue to use green hydrogen an environmentally friendly energy source in production at our facilities. In this context, our second DRI plant in Algeria became the world’s first commercial facility capable of operating both with natural gas and, with a small modification, with 100% hydrogen, thanks to its advanced technology. Our product-based emissions are nearly 50% lower than those of our competitors. We are gathering our green steel products under the Tosyalı V-Green brand.”

"We increased our global crude steel production by 110%."

Fuat Tosyalı also touched on Tosyalı Holding’s position among the world’s steel producers, noting that they have steadily improved their global ranking by continuously increasing their production every year. Emphasizing that they have boosted their global crude steel production by 110% over the past five years, Tosyalı continued:

“With this growth, we have doubled our global visibility and become the company with the highest crude steel production based in Türkiye. We are the third-largest steel producer in Europe. We are moving confidently toward our goal of becoming one of the world’s top 20 steel companies within the next five years.”

Tosyalı stated that strategic investments aimed at strengthening competitiveness in both the domestic market and the international arena will continue, noting that sustainability and value-added production will be the key determinants of the sector’s future.
