Famous automotive brand chooses Egypt for investment over Türkiye

The British automotive giant MG Motor has made an unexpected decision to invest in Egypt, contrary to long-standing expectations that the company would invest in Türkiye.

Famous automotive brand chooses Egypt for investment over Türkiye

MG's parent company SAIC will establish a new production facility in Egypt instead of Türkiye. This facility will focus on the production of both electric and hybrid vehicles.

$135 Million Investment in Egypt

The company has begun preparations to build a factory in Egypt with a $135 million investment, capable of producing 100,000 vehicles annually. The production facility is planned to be completed in the first quarter of 2026. Once the factory becomes operational, it will provide employment for 10,000 people.

First Model Will Be MG5 Sedan

MG Motor will initially produce the MG5 sedan model in its Egyptian factory. Subsequently, the production line will shift to electric and hybrid models. This decision has created a major disappointment in the Turkish automotive sector. Long-standing rumors about investing in Türkiye had raised expectations in the industry.

MG's preference reinforces Egypt's rising appeal in the automotive sector and its steps towards becoming a regional production hub.
