Explosion occurred in TMO silo in Derince district of Kocaeli

An explosion occurred in the port silo of TMO Kocaeli Chief Directorate at 14.40 at the coastal part of the district for an undetermined reason.

Fire, health and police teams were dispatched to the area as a result of the explosion, which caused dense smoke and dust cloud.

10 people were injured

Kocaeli Governor Seddar Yavuz reported that 10 people were injured in the explosion at TMO silos in Derince and that they assessed that there was no one under the rubble.

"We sent 3-4 of our injured friends to the hospital"

Derince Mayor Zeki Aygün also made a statement at the scene, noting that the teams are continuing their work and said, "We are currently busy identifying and transporting the injured to the hospital. Investigations are being carried out, we do not have clear information, but we sent 3-4 of our injured friends to the hospital. We are following the incident with our teams."

Stating that the explosion occurred in the grain silo, Aygün said, "Of course, it is a technical incident, it is not possible for us to explain or know the explanation. Information will be given after the friends examine it. There was no fire, there was an explosion caused by compression, but it was a violent explosion. I felt it even from where I was sitting in the municipality building. I hope there were no deaths, if we survive the incident like this, this is what is important for us."
