Explosion at Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant! Ukraine blames Russia

This morning's explosion at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant in Ukraine has sparked new tensions between Ukraine and Russia. Ukraine claimed that the explosion was the result of a Russian attack, while the Kremlin denied the allegations and called it a “provocation”.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) announced that the explosion occurred on the steel shield containing the remains of the plant's fourth reactor. The videos and photos shared showed the moment of the explosion and the damaged spots on the steel shield. Following the incident, the IAEA reported that radiation levels inside the plant were normal and no radiation leakage was detected outside.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on his social media account that there was no increase in radiation levels at the plant after the explosion. He also emphasized that Russia was behind the attack.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told Reuters that Ukraine's blaming Russia for the attack was a “provocation”. Peskov said Russia had not targeted nuclear infrastructure and did not have any detailed information on the explosion.

As international investigations into the incident continue, security concerns in the region continue to grow.
