EUROMETAL has launched the "Green Steel Working Group" in the European steel supply chain

Last Thursday, EUROMETAL held a kick-off meeting in Brussels, bringing together leading stakeholders of the European steel supply chain to establish the "Green Steel Working Group."

EUROMETAL has launched the "Green Steel Working Group" in the European steel supply chain

This initiative aims to accelerate the use of green steel, close the current gaps between supply and demand, and identify practical ways to support distributors, service centers, and producers in transitioning to more sustainable steel solutions.

The kick-off meeting, chaired by EUROMETAL Board Member Jaap Jan Aardenburg, brought together leading industry representatives and EUROMETAL members. Participants included Fernando Pessanha (Strategy Director) and Gilles Mirol (Commercial Director) from Hydnum Steel, Sebastian Schulze (Head of Operational Purchasing) from Knauf Interfer, António Pedro Antunes (CEO) from Metalogalva, as well as Ricardo Silva (General Manager) and Alexander Julius (President) from EUROMETAL.

During the meeting, attendees exchanged views on current challenges regarding the availability and certification of green steel, the role of distribution in market access, and the importance of transparent standards and documentation throughout the value chain.

The EUROMETAL Green Steel Working Group will serve as a neutral platform connecting producers, distributors, and end-users. The group aims to promote knowledge sharing, best practices, and coordinated actions that contribute to scaling up the green steel market in Europe.

Once the group finalizes its framework and work plan, it plans to bring together Europe’s leading stakeholders through a “Green Steel Day” event designed to foster dialogue among steel producers, distributors, industrial users, and policymakers.
