Ertan reported that during the January–July period of 2025, exports to Syria from the Aegean Exporters’ Associations increased by 88%, rising from 15.5 million dollars to 29 million dollars. He added that they have also made contacts to boost exports from the Aegean Region to Syria and that they have had productive meetings.
Highlighting Syria’s need for reconstruction, Ertan said:
“Our Turkish contractors undertake major projects around the world. They will have a significant role in Syria’s reconstruction. During this process, there is potential for many sectors—such as iron and steel, mining, cement, electrical-electronics, construction materials, furniture, and carpets—to increase their exports. Political relations between Turkey and Syria are currently supportive of Turkish exporters. By the end of 2025, we expect Turkey’s exports to Syria to reach 3 billion dollars.”
Uçak: “In the first half of 2025, Turkey’s exports to Syria increased by 51%”
Hayrettin Uçak, Vice Coordinator Chairman of the Aegean Exporters’ Associations and Chairman of the Aegean Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters’ Association, emphasized that Turkey and Syria have reached an agreement on making the city of Aleppo a logistics hub in the near future. He expressed their belief that Turkey’s exports to Syria will show significant increases in 2025 and beyond.
Uçak provided the data that Turkey’s exports to Syria increased by 51% in the first half of 2025, rising from 999 million dollars to 1.506 billion dollars. He added:
“Syria is a growing market for all our sectors. The end of the war in Syria will not only boost our exports to Syria but also support our exports to Saudi Arabia. Our shipments to Jordan and Saudi Arabia via Syria by road will accelerate significantly. We will become more competitive in exports to Saudi Arabia and achieve considerable increases in export figures.”
Öztürk: “We are the leading sector in exports to Syria”
Muhammet Öztürk, Chairman of the Aegean Cereals, Pulses, Oil Seeds and Products Exporters’ Association, noted that Syria imported 1.15 billion dollars’ worth of cereals, pulses, and oilseeds in 2024, and Turkish exporters accounted for 518 million dollars of that amount.
Emphasizing Syria’s population of 21 million, geographical proximity, and strong political ties, Öztürk said:
“As the cereals, pulses, and oilseeds sector, we hold a 24% share in Turkey’s 2.183 billion dollars of exports to Syria, making us the leading sector. Our goal is to maintain this leadership in the coming years and reach 1 billion dollars in exports of cereals, pulses, and oilseeds to Syria. The most recent trade delegation organization has brought us one step closer to that target.”
Alimoğlu: “Syria imports everything from A to Z from Turkey”
İbrahim Alimoğlu, Chairman of the Aegean Mineral Exporters’ Association, highlighted that Turkey has embraced millions of Syrians for 15 years during their most difficult times. He noted that Turkey is also Syria’s largest partner in foreign trade, accounting for 61% of Syria’s 4.282 billion-dollar foreign trade volume in 2024, adding that Syria sources everything from Turkey—from “needle to thread.”
Alimoğlu stated that the mining sector will support Syria during its reconstruction process and continued:
“Before the civil war, Syria was a significant buyer of Turkish natural stones. In the reconstruction phase, the country presents potential growth opportunities for our sector. The familiarity of Syrian contractors and architects with Turkish stones will also give us an advantage over competitor countries in this new era. In addition, as a neighboring country, we have a strong competitive edge due to lower transportation costs and shorter delivery times. We want Turkish natural stones to be used in new projects to be implemented in Syria. We will intensify our contacts with Syrian importers,” he said.
