Erdemir Madencilik Sanayi ve Ticaret A.Ş. (Ermaden) has launched the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) process for a comprehensive infrastructure modernization project aimed at enhancing environmental sustainability and operational safety at its mining operations in Divriği, Sivas Province.
The company has officially initiated the permitting process for a new investment designed to significantly expand its mine waste management capacity.
Investment Scope
According to the EIA application submitted to the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change and prepared by Savra İnşaat Makina Mühendislik Ltd. Şti., the project carries a total investment value of TRY 213,852,269.
The project consists of three main components:
Construction of a new filter press unit;
A substantial capacity expansion of the existing Dry Mine Tailings Storage Facility (TSF);
Construction of an additional Wet Mine Tailings Storage Facility.
Major Increase in Tailings Storage Capacity
The investment will significantly strengthen the site's waste management infrastructure.
The capacity of the existing dry tailings storage facility will increase from 5,305,652 cubic meters to 12.71 million cubic meters, representing more than a twofold expansion.
In addition, the project includes the construction of a new wet tailings storage facility with a total storage volume of 2.5 million cubic meters.
Enhancing Operational Efficiency and Environmental Protection
The Divriği beneficiation plant processes approximately 2.76 million tonnes of run-of-mine (ROM) ore annually.
Operational data indicate that the filter press unit generates approximately 499,150 cubic meters of tailings per year, while processing 1,268,150 tonnes of feed at the jig plant produces an additional 446,058 cubic meters of tailings.
The new infrastructure will ensure that the combined 945,208 cubic meters of annual mine waste generated by these two streams is stored safely and in a controlled manner in accordance with international environmental standards.

Beyond ensuring compliance with current environmental regulations, Ermaden's investment represents a tangible example of environmentally responsible mining practices in Türkiye.
Once the EIA process is completed and the project is implemented, the Divriği operation will benefit from significantly upgraded tailings management standards, providing greater environmental protection for the surrounding ecosystem while strengthening the long-term safety and reliability of the mining operation.
