EMSTEEL announced that, in collaboration with global technology company Danieli, it has launched the first Electric Process Gas Heater (ePGH) pilot in the steel sector.
The pilot replaces conventional gas-fired heaters with an electric system at EMSTEEL’s DRI plants. When powered by green electricity, the system reduces over 2,200 tons of CO₂ emissions per year.
Developed with Danieli’s R&D team, the ePGH underwent testing and modelling under industrial conditions and was commissioned in a 1.3 MW pilot phase. The system is expected to scale up to 22.7 MW in the future.
EMSTEEL Group CEO, Engineer Saeed Ghumran Saeed Al Remeithi, stated that the project continues the company’s work in sustainable production.
As of 2023, the company reduced its Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions to 4.5 million tons of CO₂ and lowered its emissions intensity by 23%.
