In the first quarter of 2025, Egypt’s rebar sector showed a weak performance, with decreases in both production and sales. Despite falling prices, demand failed to recover.
In March 2025, rebar consumption decreased by 23.5% m/m to 423.9K tons. In February, the figure stood at 554K tons. However, on a yearly basis, consumption increased by 20.8% compared to March 2024.
Production in March was recorded at 577.4K tons, marking an 18% decline from February and a decrease of 17% compared to March 2024. Sales also decreased by 23% m/m but increased by 21% y/y.
Between January and March, total production amounted to 1.95 million tons, and total sales reached 1.55 million tons. Compared to the same period last year, this reflects a 10% decrease in production and an 8% decreasse in sales.
During the same period, average rebar prices decreased by 19% to EGP 37,714 per ton (approximately USD 800–820). However, experts note that this price drop was not enough to stimulate demand in the sector.
