The Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), in collaboration with Egypt’s Commercial Office in Tokyo, the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones, and the Egypt-Japan Business Council, organized a business seminar in Tokyo. The event was attended by Egypt’s Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade, Hassan El-Khatib, along with Japanese officials and representatives from over 200 Japanese companies. Discussions during the seminar focused on supply chains, the food industry, green energy, digital transformation, and industrial zone production.
In his speech, Minister El-Khatib shared recent economic developments in Egypt. He highlighted the country’s interest in attracting Japanese investment in areas such as renewable energy, software, electronics, food processing, logistics, automotive components, and electrical appliances. He also outlined the incentives and facilitation measures available to investors.
JETRO Executive Vice President Tomohiro Takashima emphasized the importance of Egypt as a business partner for Japan. JETRO Cairo Office Director Shigeo Nishizawa provided an overview of Japanese investments in Egypt and the incentives offered to encourage further engagement. It was also announced that a dedicated unit has been established to support Japanese companies in their setup processes in Egypt.
The seminar also featured the experiences of Japanese firms currently operating in Egypt. Some companies have already started production and distribution activities in the country, positioning Egypt as a regional hub. Minister El-Khatib also held a meeting with Japan’s Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Economy, Trade and Industry, Kato Akiyoshi, where both sides discussed ways to deepen economic cooperation and expand investment.
