Egypt’s Minister of Industry and Transport, Kamel El-Wazir, announced that the ministry is working on a new plan to enable local production of sheet metal used in the automotive sector. He noted that the initiative is expected to boost local manufacturing and help lower production costs.
The announcement followed a meeting chaired by El-Wazir with leading steel producers and representatives from automotive and bus manufacturing companies. Discussions focused on how to localize sheet metal production, as well as production methods and technical requirements.
Minister El-Wazir emphasized that producing these materials locally would reduce dependency on imports and contribute to more balanced and efficient vehicle manufacturing in Egypt. He also noted that this step could pave the way for the domestic production of other vehicle components in the future.
El-Wazir highlighted that some automotive parts are already being manufactured in Egypt and exported, which he said shows the potential for further development in this area.
The ministry will continue working with private sector companies and public institutions, and larger meetings involving vehicle manufacturers and component suppliers are planned for the near future.
