EGA's (Emirates Global Aluminum) US plant expansion project reaches an important stage

Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) has announced the completion of the construction phase of its expansion project at the Spectro Alloys recycling facility in the U.S. In the first phase, the facility’s production capacity will be increased by 55,000 tons of aluminum annually. The first hot metal is expected to be produced by mid-2025, with full production ramp-up scheduled for the first quarter of 2026.

EGA had acquired 80% of Spectro Alloys in 2024, accelerating its global growth in aluminum recycling. The U.S. is one of the company’s largest markets, and this expansion will further strengthen EGA’s presence in the country.

Spectro Alloys, based in Rosemount, Minnesota, is a leading secondary foundry alloy producer with an annual production capacity of 110,000 tons of aluminum ingots. The expansion project marks a significant step toward supporting sustainability goals and advancing the circular economy.

EGA CEO Abdulnasser Bin Kalban said, “Increasing Spectro Alloys’ production capacity reinforces our position in the U.S. market and helps us achieve our recycling goals.” Luke Palen, President of Spectro Alloys, commented, “This expansion provides a significant opportunity for more sustainable production and will play a key role in increasing recycling rates.”

Demand for recycled aluminum in the U.S. is expected to reach 7.6 million tons annually by 2033. Currently, the U.S. is the second-largest market for recycled aluminum globally.
