The Global Steel Climate Council (GSCC) announced that it has approved Duferco Travi e Profilati SpA’s Corporate Average Steel Emissions Intensity (CASEI) and Science-Based Emissions Target (SBET) certifications. It was stated that this certification shows the continued expansion of GSCC’s certified community in Europe and supports measurable progress in decarbonization within the steel industry.

In a statement by GSCC, it was noted that Duferco Travi e Profilati’s certification contributes to the development of emissions reduction and accountability processes across Europe. It was also stated that the number of certified members aligned with the GSCC Steel Climate Standard continues to increase, and that approximately 3 million tons of CO₂e have been avoided to date through independently verified emissions reductions.

Regarding the company’s production structure, it was highlighted that steel is produced from recycled scrap metal and that its flagship San Zeno Naviglio plant operates with renewable energy. This approach was presented as an example of integrating sustainability into production processes.

GSCC Executive Director Adina Renee Adler emphasized that with Duferco Travi e Profilati’s certification, the number of members certified under the GSCC Steel Climate Standard continues to grow, stressing the importance of transparent and verifiable data in emissions reduction.

Duferco Travi e Profilati General Manager Simone Campanella stated that the certification reflects the company’s concrete commitment to decarbonization, adding that they continue their production model based on recycled raw materials, production efficiency, and renewable energy use.

Regarding the company’s emission targets, it was reported that a baseline of 1.13 metric tons of CO₂e per ton of hot-rolled steel was calculated for 2022, an interim target of 1.01 metric tons of CO₂e was set for 2030, and a long-term target of 0.12 metric tons of CO₂e was committed for 2050. These targets were said to be aligned with the GSCC Steel Climate Standard and demonstrate the company’s focus on measurable, data-driven progress.

It was also stated that the GSCC Steel Climate Standard provides a global framework for measuring and reporting steel carbon emissions and supports the Paris Agreement’s 1.5°C target.
