Direct road transport between Turkey and Syria resumes after 13 years

Direct international road transport between Turkey and Syria has resumed after 13 years. Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu stated that yesterday, four trucks crossed from Mersin to Aleppo and three trucks from Idlib to Mersin via the Cilvegözü Border Gate.

Direct road transport between Turkey and Syria resumes after 13 years

Uraloğlu emphasized that transport operations had halted due to the internal conflict in Syria that began in 2011, and for many years, goods were transported through transfer points. Following developments in December 2024, a process was initiated to resume direct shipments. He added that a memorandum of understanding on road transport with Syria was signed during the Global Transport Corridors Forum held in Istanbul on 27-29 June.

He stated that a technical meeting at the Cilvegözü Border Gate on 9 July defined the conditions for crossing, and that transport operations have now officially begun on the ground. Turkish and Syrian-registered vehicles can now reach their destinations directly without the need for border transfers.

Uraloğlu emphasized that this development will make shipments to Jordan and Saudi Arabia faster and more cost-effective.
