Iran’s total steel production dropped 1.6% from January to October compared to last year, while intermediate steel output rose 4.7%, according to the Iran Steel Producers Association.
Sponge iron and iron ore concentrate production increased by 5% and 8.9%, respectively, while iron ore pellet output fell 0.6%. Total steel output reached 12.71 million tons, with intermediate products at 18.15 million tons.
Despite energy shortages, Iranian steelmakers boosted intermediate steel production, though I-beam output fell sharply by 32.4%.
Steel Exports Increase by 27%
Steel exports grew 27% in value, reaching over $4.6 billion. Export volumes of iron and steel rose 34%, with total steel exports up 43%.
However, domestic producers’ share dropped to around 40%. Raw material exports surged, with iron ore concentrate up 82%, raising concerns about domestic supply. Rebar exports fell 18%, while steel sheet export value nearly tripled to $408 million.
