Scrap purchase prices in Taiwan continue to decline. Korean buyers' demand for additional concessions from Japanese suppliers, whom are trying to keep their prices stable, is seen as one of the main reasons for the decline.
Scrap prices at Taiwanese ports are 10 USD/MT lower this week than the offers announced a week ago; HMS 1&2 container shipments from the USA are in the price range of 355-360 USD/MT CIF. Korean buyers, on the other hand, are placing their orders to Japanese suppliers at the price range of 325-329 USD/MT FOB, down 10 USD/MT.
Despite this, Japanese suppliers, relying on local price stability and relatively active demand, are not yet ready to make significant concessions. According to experts, prices for main raw materials will continue to remain flat, especially since increased competition has already led to a significant decline in both the semi-finished and long product segments.
