Coal production in Russia increased

According to Rosstat, Russian coal companies increased production volumes by 1.6% in January-June 2025 compared to the same period last year, reaching 216 million tons. The dynamics for different types of coal turned out to be uneven: production of thermal coal increased by 0.2% (166 million tons), anthracite - by 1.7% (11.1 million tons), while coking coal production, on the contrary, decreased by 7.2%, amounting to 51.9 million tons. Particularly noticeable growth was demonstrated by the category of "other coal" (+4.2%, 103 million tons) and brown coal (+6.8%, 49.8 million tons).

The June figures confirmed the positive dynamics: the total volume of coal production increased by 2.8% (33.9 million tons), including anthracite - by a significant 16.3% (1.7 million tons). Brown coal production increased by 8.6% in June (7 million tons), while coking coal production remained at the same level as last year (8.7 million tons).

The Russian Ministry of Energy predicts that by the end of 2025, coal production in the country will remain at the level of 2024, when 443.5 million tons of coal were mined.
