Çimsa will meet 16 per cent of Spain's energy need

Çimsa, owned by the Sabancı Group, will install a solar power plant in the Bunol factory it purchased in Spain. 11 thousand solar panels will be installed by ID Energy Group. With this investment, Çimsa is expected to meet 16 per cent of Spain's energy need.

Çimsa will meet 16 per cent of Spain's energy need

Çimsa, the global brand of Sabancı Group, is preparing to establish a solar power plant at its white cement plant in Spain with an investment of EUR 4.2 million. The signing ceremony of the investment was held with the participation of Onur Yazgan, Deputy General Manager of Çimsa White Cement Marketing & Sales and General Manager of Spain, Benito Puebla, CEO of ID Energy Group and senior executives of both companies.

The system, which will be installed turnkey by ID Energy Group, will have an installed capacity of 7.2 MW and will generate approximately 12 GWh of electricity per year.

The SPP project, where 11 thousand solar panels will be used on an area of 100 thousand square metres, the size of 14 football fields, will be actively commissioned in 2023. All of the energy produced in the SPP will be consumed by Çimsa Cementos.

"It will meet approximately 16 per cent of the energy need"

Once completed, the solar energy investment will meet around 16 per cent of the energy needs of the plant in Spain. The amount of renewable energy generated (12 GWh/year) will be equivalent to the electricity needs of 3,600 homes and 3,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year.

The environmental benefits of the solar investment include protecting the environment through the consumption of renewable energy, improving the energy rating of the plant and reducing the carbon footprint.

Stating that the solar power plant to be built at the factory in Spain is part of Çimsa's efforts to fulfil the requirements of energy efficiency and green transformation, Çimsa CEO Umut Zenar made the following assessment regarding the investment:

"We are working hard to achieve sustainable development"

"In order to reduce global emissions by half by 2030, a large-scale transformation towards the use of renewable energy is required. In this process, as Çimsa, we are working hard to fulfil the requirements of green transformation and achieve sustainable development with the aim of continuing to be a part of the circular economy.

Within the scope of our sustainability strategy, we continue to focus on issues such as reducing carbon footprint, energy efficiency and environmentally friendly products. In this context, we believe that our solar energy investments, which we will realise in Spain as well as Turkey, will make a great contribution to the reduction of emissions, which is a common problem of the whole world."
