China's steel production restriction is growing!

The Ministry of Ecology and Environment of the People's Republic of China has published a draft on the tightening of the air quality control system during the extended heating season from October 1, 2021 to March 31, 2022. It will also include the Winter Olympic Games in Beijing and Zhangjiakou.

If in 2017, when winter restrictions were first applied in the period from November 15 to March 15, it applied to 28 urban areas, this year the program covers 64 regions in Hebei provinces (including Beijing and Tianjin), Shanxi, Shandong, Jiangsu. In addition, it is located in Henan.

In the upcoming heating season, metallurgical companies in these regions will have to reduce their steel production in accordance with the level of compliance with environmental standards. In addition, enterprises assigned to the "A" group (optimal fulfillment of requirements) will have to limit production to the level of a year ago. For the rest, a more significant reduction in melting is envisaged.

In addition, in regions where restrictions have been imposed, continuous requirements have been introduced to reduce energy consumption and carbon dioxide emissions. Approving projects for the construction of new plants in a number of industries, including metallurgy, has become significantly more complex.
