China's stainless steel exports to Japan increased by 72.9%

According to the latest trade statistics from the Ministry of Finance of Japan, Japan's stainless steel imports in June revealed significant changes in supplier dynamics. The country imported 25,260 tons of stainless steel products, which increased by 4.9% compared to June last year. Within this total, cold-rolled steel imports reached 16,450 tons, representing a y-o-y growth of 5.6%.

China's contribution to Japan's stainless steel imports increased significantly with 8,129 tons imported in June, increased by 72.9% from a year earlier. China's growing share in the Japanese market indicates it is becoming a more dominant supplier due to competitive pricing and production capacities.

In contrast, imports from Taiwan and South Korea saw declines. Taiwan's exports to Japan fell by 13% to 4,611 tons, while South Korean exports fell by 37% to 3,200 tons. These declines have led to an increase in the proportion of Chinese products, which now account for 49% of Japan's total stainless steel imports. This shift towards Chinese suppliers could impact Japan's domestic industry, particularly in pricing and supply chain, as China continues to strengthen its market position.
