The panel was moderated by Ron Ashburn, Executive Director of the Association for Iron & Steel Technology (AIST), the leading organization in the steel industry. Rafic Daou, CEO of Suez Steel Company, Rolando Paolone, Board Member of Acciaierie Bertoli Safau SpA, and Barry Schneider, President of Steel Dynamics Inc.
The panel emphasized that steel demand in the MENA region is facing significant challenges, including global oversupply, geopolitical uncertainties, rising inflation and fluctuations in energy costs. Despite this, regional producers are trying to overcome these challenges through strategic investments, focusing on sustainability goals.
Participants agreed that in today's ever-changing market dynamics, the industry needs to emphasize technological advancements and environmental responsibility projects that will increase flexibility and competitiveness.
The MENA Steel Forum 2025 will continue in Cairo from June 24-26, and other developments critical to the region's steel sector will also be discussed at the forum.
