Centravis has decided to close its facility in Uzhhorod due to the EU's new steel quotas

Ukrainian seamless stainless steel pipe manufacturer Centravis has decided to close its production facility in Uzhhorod following the European Union's (EU) introduction of new safeguard measures on steel imports and the reduction of quotas allocated to steel products of Ukrainian origin.

Centravis has decided to close its facility in Uzhhorod due to the EU's new steel quotas

The company stated that the new trade restrictions could result in a 43-47% decline in its exports of seamless stainless steel pipes to the European Union (EU).

According to local media reports, the quota allocated by the EU to Ukraine for this product category has been set at 6,524 metric tons. By comparison, Ukraine exported 11,306 metric tons of seamless stainless steel pipes to the EU in 2025, while shipments totaled 14,194 metric tons in the pre-war year of 2021. The Uzhhorod facility, which manufactures small-diameter pipes primarily for European customers, was commissioned in 2023.

The company said that following the closure of the facility, it will focus on optimizing its product portfolio and strengthening its presence in alternative markets, particularly the United States, Latin America and the Middle East.

Centravis noted that operations at its Uzhhorod facility could be resumed if the European Union revises its decision or if demand for Ukrainian-origin seamless stainless steel pipes increases in other markets. In the meantime, all production will be carried out at the company's main manufacturing facility in Nikopol, located in Ukraine's Dnipropetrovsk region.

Meanwhile, industry experts warn that the EU's new safeguard measures could result in a potential annual loss of 1.3-1.6 million metric tons of Ukraine's steel exports.
