Canada's Algoma Steel's first columns for electric arc furnace building installed
He partnered with Walters Group Inc., based in Hamilton, ON, for the manufacture and installation of the electric arc furnace building and ancillary structures.
Walters Group uses steel plate products from Algoma in the manufacture of heavy structural components. For the manufacture of the basic elements, it works with SIS Manufacturing Inc. The assembly of the building structure is aimed to be completed within the year.
According to Michael D. Garcia, Chief Executive Officer of Algoma, progress on the electric arc furnace project continues quickly and confidently. A 70% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions is expected. The transition, coupled with Ontario's low-carbon electricity grid, is expected to make Algoma one of North America's leading producers of green steel.
