Brazilian crude steel production increased by 15.3% in September

According to data from the local steel institute Aço Brasil, Brazil's crude steel production in September 2021 amounted to 3.1 million tons, up 15.3 percent compared to the same month of 2020.

Rolled steel production was 2.1 million tons, 8.5% more than in September 2020. Production of semi-finished products for sale amounted to 695,000 mt, up 52.3% compared to the same month of 2020.

Domestic sales increased by 1.2% compared to September 2020 and reached 1.9 million tons. Apparent consumption of steel products totaled 2.2 million mt, up 8.5% year-on-year.

September exports resulted in 949 thousand tons or 942 million US pounds, an increase of 26.6% and 150.1%, respectively, compared to the same month of 2020.

September 2021 imports totaled 358 thousand tons and $414 million, up 151.1 percent in quantum and 139.4 percent in value compared to September 2020.

The figures announced since the beginning of the year are as follows;

Accumulated from January to September 2021, Brazil's crude steel production was 27.2 million tons, representing a 20.2% increase over the same period of the previous year. Rolled product production in the same period amounted to 20.1 million tons, an increase of 28.7% compared to the same period of 2020. Production of semi-finished products for sale increased by 6.3 to 6.2 million tons in the January-September 2021 period. % based on the same comparison*.

Between January and September 2021, domestic sales increased by 29.7% compared to the same period of the previous year, reaching 17.9 million tons.

The national apparent consumption of steel products was 21.0 million tons per year up to September 2021. This result represents an increase of 37.3% compared to the same period of 2020.

Imports, accumulated until September 2021, increased by 162.7 percent compared to the same period of the previous year and reached 3.9 million tons. By value, imports reached US$3.6 billion in the same comparison period, increasing by 126.7%.
