Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar shared the following statement on his social media account “We have taken another important step in natural gas trade, which will be one of the key topics on the agenda during the White House meeting between our President, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, and U.S. President Donald Trump.
In New York, we signed a long-term LNG supply agreement between our national company BOTAŞ and one of the world’s leading energy groups, Mercuria, covering a period of 20 years.
Under this agreement, which will begin deliveries in 2026, we will receive approximately 4 billion cubic meters of natural gas equivalent LNG per year, totaling around 70 billion cubic meters, from U.S. loading terminals as well as gasification facilities located in Türkiye, Europe, and North Africa.
This agreement not only strengthens BOTAŞ’s presence in the global LNG trade but also supports our country’s long term goals of supply security, price stability, and diversification of energy sources. He also added:“As part of our engagements in New York, we witnessed the signing of a preliminary agreement between BOTAŞ and Woodside Energy for long term LNG supply starting in 2030 and will continue for nine years. The agreement covers the supply of approximately 5.8 billion cubic meters of natural gas equivalent LNG, primarily sourced from the Louisiana LNG Project in the United States.I am pleased to witness this important agreement and hope that this new partnership between BOTAŞ and Woodside lays the groundwork for a multifaceted cooperation.”
