BMZ plans to supply at least 200 thousand tonnes of steel to countries on the African continent

Dmitry Korchik, general director of the Belarusian Steel Works (BMZ), told reporters that the company plans to export 200,000 tonnes of steel to African countries in 2024.

BMZ plans to supply at least 200 thousand tonnes of steel to countries on the African continent

"We have always had a presence on the African continent," Korchik emphasised. "Today, of course, there are some difficulties with logistics and settlement, but we are confident in our capacity. We have already secured some deliveries of steel products in the first quarter of this year and our minimum target for this year is 200,000 tonnes of steel".

Despite the logistical challenges, BMZ continues to increase its export volumes.

"Last year we shipped around 140,000 tonnes of products to the African continent and this year we plan to increase shipments. They recognise our products there, they are interested in our products," Dmitry Korchik added.

Import substitution is one of the key directions of business development of the company. Last year, more than 60 new product types were mastered, including new steel grades and product types, primarily for the automotive industry, he noted.

In addition, BMZ is actively expanding its supplies to the Belarusian domestic market, especially in the automotive and machine-building sectors, where imported products prevailed.

In addition to expanding into African and domestic markets, BMZ is also increasing its supplies to Russia, focusing on construction, automotive, mechanical engineering and oil production.

"The company reaches a monthly steel production of 220 thousand tonnes in March. We have relevant contracts and orders for all production. All issues related to the supply of raw materials and scrap metal have been resolved; today we even have a stockpile being formed. The economy of the enterprise is positive. We are working on improving production efficiency to fulfil all our social obligations," summarised Dmitry Korchik.
