Although the existing system, which has been in use at the company since the 1990s, guided operators for many years in producing ingots with the correct specifications, it eventually became technically inadequate over time, with increasing maintenance challenges and support issues, creating the need for renewal.
Within this scope, Björneborg Steel decided to implement Prevas Smart Production (PSP), a modern MES platform that makes digitalization secure, flexible, and profitable. In the first phase of the project, a new reporting function was developed for the demoulding process, the final step in steel production. At this stage, the operator reports through the system that the mould has been removed from the ingot and that the material is ready to proceed to the next stage of the forging process.
The initial goal of the implementation was to establish an infrastructure that operates in parallel with the existing system and can be gradually expanded over time. With Prevas Smart Production (PSP), Björneborg Steel has gained a scalable system that can be step by step extended to cover all operations—including steel production, forging, and heat treatment—while remaining aligned with long-term objectives.
Commenting on the project, Prevas Regional Manager Johan Lindqvist stated that they are pleased to be part of Björneborg Steel’s journey toward future-ready manufacturing, adding that by combining modern technology with industry expertise, they are contributing to the company’s sustainable and efficient growth.
The modern MES platform offered by Prevas provides ready-to-use core functions for rapid deployment, full traceability across the entire production chain, improved decision-making through real-time data, and a flexible structure that can grow together with the business. With this solution now in place, Björneborg Steel aims to establish a stable, future-proof manufacturing infrastructure that strengthens its competitiveness.
