Belgian steel production decreased y-o-y in January-August period

In August, steel production at Belgian steel mills decreased by 23.5% compared to the previous month to around 461,000 tonnes. Belgium has five steel plants, one blast furnace and four electric arc plants.

In the first eight months of this year, Belgium's steel production decreased by 9.5% y-o-y to 4.3 million tonnes. This was seen as a sign of a long-term downward trend. The monthly average steel production in the same period was around 526,000 tonnes, a decrease of 13.2% compared to the same period of the previous year.

Steel producers faced challenges such as demand fluctuations, raw material costs and increased competition.
