Audi to relocate manufacturing from Belgium to Mexico

Audi announced the decision to close its plant in Brussels and move its production to Mexico, following the closure of Volkswagen plants in Germany.

Audi to relocate manufacturing from Belgium to Mexico

The Q8 e-tron model produced at the Brussels plant, which closes on February 28, 2025, is set to be produced in Mexico from 2025 onwards.

Volkswagen stated its intention to continue taking steps to decrease the production costs of its electric vehicle manufacturing. It aims to cut costs by decreasing production in Germany and Belgium, both of which have low profitability. Structural problems and difficulties in changing the production configuration of the Brussels plant were also factors in the closure decision.

Volkswagen CEO Thomas Schäfer emphasized the current situation is unsustainable over the long term.

Audi commits to fulfilling its social responsibilities and ensuring the employment security of its employees at the Brussels plant, employing around 3,000 people.

The company continues to search for a buyer for the plant. Mexico is an important production center for the Volkswagen Group and is the third largest automobile manufacturer in the country, making up 13.8% of the group's total production.
