The Brazilian division of steel company ArcelorMittal announced that it will commission a third rolling mill at its integrated Monlevade plant in January 2022. This equipment was installed in 2015, but was never released due to insufficient demand.
Currently, the two Monlevade plants produce up to 1.2 million tons of long products per year, mainly for mechanical engineering, household appliances, spring production and special grade steel wire rod for various types of wire.
The third mill has a capacity of approximately 1 million tons per year. ArcelorMittal Brasil, which will spend approximately $90 million to replace equipment that has been idle for more than six years, has announced that capacities will be introduced gradually according to the actual level of demand for the company's products.
