ArcelorMittal has announced the commissioning of a new iron ore processing plant in Liberia’s Nimba County, with an annual capacity of 20 million tons. The facility is a key milestone in the company’s $1.8 billion expansion program and part of its overall investment in Liberia, which exceeds $3 billion.
This new plant, one of the largest of its kind on the African continent, will boost ArcelorMittal’s annual production capacity from 5 million to 20 million tons. It also aims to enhance ore quality, enabling the production of higher-grade iron content materials.
Liberian President Joseph Boakai emphasized that the investment reflects strong confidence in the country and highlighted its potential to generate employment and contribute significantly to economic development.
ArcelorMittal also noted that it plans to further increase its production capacity to 30 million tons in the future and is exploring the potential for producing concentrate suitable for Direct Reduced Iron (DRI).
