Challenging market conditions in the European steel sector have led ArcelorMittal to make a significant decision at its Dąbrowa Górnicza facility. The company announced that due to rising energy costs, increased prices for CO₂ emission allowances, and declining steel prices in the European Union, it has initiated the shutdown of the No. 3 blast furnace.
Wojciech Koszuta, CEO of ArcelorMittal Poland, stated that operating two blast furnaces simultaneously at the plant is no longer economically sustainable. Therefore, only one blast furnace will remain operational on site.
A large portion of Poland’s steel consumption is met through imports. Approximately 80% of the country’s visible steel consumption is sourced externally, with key suppliers including Ukraine, Serbia, and Asian countries.
