The agreement, implemented on 26 December 2025, follows the letter of intent signed in January 2024 and is considered a critical milestone in ArcelorMittal’s energy transition strategy in France.
Under the contract, EDF will allocate a portion of the capacity of its operating nuclear power plants to ArcelorMittal for a period of 18 years. This will enable the company to secure a long-term supply of low-carbon and competitive electricity, while ensuring greater stability in energy costs at its French facilities. The first electricity deliveries under the agreement began on 1 January 2026.
Reiner Blaschek, CEO of ArcelorMittal Europe – Flat Products, emphasized the strategic importance of the agreement, stating:
“We welcome this nuclear power production allocation agreement signed with EDF. This agreement will allow us to secure a long-term supply of low-carbon electricity for our facilities in France, which is a key factor for the future competitiveness of our steel produced in France.”
Béatrice Bigois, Executive Vice President in charge of Customers, Services and Regions at EDF Group, highlighted the agreement’s importance for both the energy transition and industrial policy, commenting:
“This nuclear power production allocation agreement demonstrates the strong commitment of EDF’s teams over recent months to providing industrial players with long-term, low-carbon and competitive electricity. By supporting ArcelorMittal, a major player in steel production, we are contributing to the decarbonization of industry and to energy sovereignty.”
