H2 Green Steel, a Swedish steel producer, and global mining company Anglo American have signed a memorandum of understanding to collaborate on low carbon emission steel production value chains.
The companies will explore the use of premium-quality iron ore products from Anglo American's Kumba mines in South Africa and Minas-Rio in Brazil, as feedstock for H2 Green Steel's direct reduced iron (DRI) production process at its plant in Boden, Sweden. The aim is to use iron in addition to pellets, increasing the flexibility of H2 Green Steel's production process.
Anglo American is committed to reducing its Scope 3 emissions by 50 percent by 2040, and this collaboration with H2 Green Steel aligns with its decarbonization goals. The partnership intends to create a cleaner, greener way to produce steel, which is a critical material for the energy transition infrastructure and ongoing global socio-economic development.
