Algoma Steel announced its shipment and financial outlook for the fourth quarter of 2025

Canadian steel producer Algoma Steel Group Inc. (ASTL) shared its outlook for the fourth quarter ending December 31, 2025.

Algoma Steel announced its shipment and financial outlook for the fourth quarter of 2025

The company expects total steel shipments for the quarter to range between 375,000 and 380,000 tonnes, while adjusted EBITDA is projected to be in the range of -$95 million to -$105 million.

Algoma CEO Rajat Marwah stated that the fourth-quarter results are tracking in line with the company’s plans. Marwah said: “Our fourth-quarter results came in as expected, reflecting the ongoing impact of steel tariffs and the previously announced phased wind-down of our blast furnace operations, which is expected to be completed in the coming days. We are encouraged by the first unit of our Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) project operating six days per week and by the continued progress of the second unit in line with our plans.”

Emphasizing the central role of the EAF transformation in the company’s strategy, Marwah added:

“As we continue progressing toward completing our transition to EAF steel production in the current quarter, we remain focused on optimizing our existing assets and advancing discussions with potential partners to expand our downstream processing capabilities. This strategy is deliberately aligned with Canada’s national interests—strengthening domestic steelmaking capacity, supporting critical infrastructure and defense supply chains, and reinforcing Canada’s long-term industrial competitiveness.”

EAF Transformation and Next-Generation Canadian Steel

Based in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Algoma is among Canada’s leading producers of high-quality plate and sheet steel, supplying critical sectors such as energy, defense, automotive, shipbuilding, and infrastructure.

Through the modernization of its plate mill and the transition to an Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) production model, the company is reshaping the future of steelmaking in Canada. Supported by Ontario’s clean electricity grid, this transformation is described as one of the largest industrial decarbonization initiatives in North America. Once fully completed, Algoma expects to reduce its carbon emissions by approximately 70%.

The company has also introduced a new brand identity, Volta™, for all steel products produced via EAF technology. Volta is positioned as secure, sustainable, Canadian-made steel, delivering the performance customers expect with a significantly lower emissions profile.
