Algeria’s national steel group SNS (Sideral National Steel) has signed an agreement with Italy-based engineering firm Danieli to build a new rolling mill at the Sider El Hadjar plant. The agreement was announced during the fifth intergovernmental summit between Algeria and Italy.
With this new investment, a production line capable of manufacturing 800,000 tons of rebar annually will be put into operation at the Sider El Hadjar steel complex. Danieli will be responsible for equipment supply, engineering services, assembly, and commissioning for the project.
The new facility is expected to play a key role in meeting the country’s growing domestic demand. Additionally, the increased production capacity is anticipated to support future export opportunities. The project is also expected to create jobs and contribute to the regional economy.
Sider El Hadjar is an important production facility operating under the SNS Group. The group also includes Algerian Qatari Steel (AQS), one of the largest steel plants in Algeria established through a partnership with Qatar. Italian steel giant Danieli is an internationally recognized company specializing in the design and construction of large-scale steel plants.
Through this partnership, Algeria aims to become more competitive in steel production both in terms of quantity and quality. Financial details and project timelines will be finalized after further technical discussions between the teams.
