Acciaierie d'Italia and DRI d'Italia collaborate for Taranto DRI plant

Acciaierie d'Italia (ADI) and DRI d'Italia announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding for the production of sponge iron in Taranto.

Acciaierie d'Italia and DRI d'Italia collaborate for Taranto DRI plant

Taranto has reportedly begun the feasibility management by ADI and DRI d'Italia for the necessary categorization and infrastructure for distribution.

DRI d'Italia will produce the plant, which will reach a capacity of 2.5 million tons/year, while ADI will manage the arrangements for the equipment to be installed in the plant.

Blast Furnace No.1 in Taranto was reportedly restarted on October 15. Until that date, Taranto had only been operating BF No.4.
ADI said that public funding of around EUR 1 billion (USD 1.08 billion) is available through the DRI technique. The DRI technique reduces CO2 emissions in steel production, resulting in less coal use.

While ADI aims to produce 1.9-2.2 million tons of steel in 2024, analysts think that it may fall short of these targets.
