Oman-based construction company Emaar Industries has stated that it has built a 900 sqm site office for Texas-based oil and gas company CB&I in Sohar Free Zone using 30 repurposed steel containers. Rather than producing new materials, this project was realized by reprocessing existing steel, presenting not only an engineering-efficient solution but also a strong example of environmental responsibility. The high-strength steel containers have helped avoid approximately 45–54 tons of CO₂ emissions.
With a CO₂ saving of 1.5–1.8 tons per ton of recycled steel, the reuse of steel in this project delivers not only structural durability but also resource efficiency and operational speed, adding significant value in terms of sustainability.
Furthermore, the project aligns fully with Oman Vision 2040, serving as a notable example of reducing carbon footprint and supporting the circular economy.
