According to Ekonomim, the vehicle developed by HABAS is set to become Türkiye’s second 100% domestically owned passenger car brand after Togg.
The company is expected to enter the market initially with two different models: a sedan and a crossover. The vehicles are planned to be offered with three powertrain options: gasoline, hybrid and plug-in hybrid.
Design by Frank Stephenson
World-renowned automotive designer Frank Stephenson is involved in HABAS’s automobile project.
Throughout his career, Stephenson has worked with leading automotive brands such as BMW, Ferrari and McLaren. His official website also states that he is working on the design of a new Turkish automotive brand, without disclosing the brand’s name.
The project goes beyond the exterior design of the vehicles. Stephenson’s team is also responsible for developing the new brand’s design language, 3D modeling, surface development, clay modeling and engineering support.
In later stages of the project, the company is reportedly planning to target SUV and light commercial vehicle segments in addition to the sedan and crossover models.
Stephenson spent part of his childhood in Istanbul
American designer Frank Stephenson, who was born in Morocco in 1959, also has a long-standing connection with Türkiye.
He lived in Istanbul between the ages of 11 and 16 due to his father’s work. During this period, he attended school in Türkiye and learned Turkish. He later moved to Madrid with his family and eventually became one of the leading designers in the global automotive industry.
Three powertrain options planned initially
For the sedan and crossover models HABAS is preparing to launch, the company is working on gasoline, hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions aimed at different user groups.
This means HABAS plans to enter the passenger car market initially not only with a fully electric lineup, but with a range of different powertrain options.
There is currently no confirmed information on whether HABAS plans to develop fully electric models in the future.
